Ohio Harvest Slowly Moving
Ohio Ag Connection - 11/20/2018

Snow and wet weather delayed harvest again last week according to Cheryl Turner, state statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. There were 2.2 days suitable for fieldwork in Ohio during the week ending Sunday.

Winter Storm Avery hit Ohio last week. Excessive moisture kept producers out of the fields and bought harvest to a halt in many areas. Topsoil moisture condition ratings increased to 71 percent surplus by week's end, up from 67 percent last week.

Elevators were still at capacity.

Producers were hoping for drier conditions and colder temperatures to freeze the ground.

The average moisture content of corn harvested last week was 17 percent and the average for soybeans was 15 percent.

Winter wheat condition was rated 67 percent good to excellent, below last year's rating at this time.
