Ohio Celebrates Food and Agriculture Industries
Ohio Ag Connection - 03/12/2019

Ohioans are encouraged to take a moment to celebrate and recognize the state's food and agriculture industry, as Ohio observes "Ohio Agriculture Week" March 10-16.

"I worked at my family's seed company in Yellow Springs when I was growing up, and I have a deep appreciation for agriculture," said Governor Mike DeWine. "I understand the hard work of Ohio's farmers, ranchers, and other people who are part of this important industry to our state and thank them for their hard work."

Monday morning, First Lady Fran DeWine kicked off Ohio Agriculture Week during a visit to Granville Middle School with Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Dorothy Pelanda. The Granville Exempted Village School District is an example of an Ohio school that goes above and beyond to provide local food to students through the school's food and nutrition program. The district has its own greenhouse and sources fruit, vegetables, milk, and meat from nearly 20 local farms.

Pelanda will continue to celebrate Ohio Agriculture Week with more than a dozen events across Ohio in the coming days including: meet and greets with members of Ohio's food and agriculture industry; visits to prominent agribusinesses; a stop at the Ohio Beef Expo; and celebrations of agriculture education during events with FFA chapters in Western Ohio.
