2018 Ohio Crop Values Up 7 Percent

The preliminary farm value of Ohio field crops produced in 2018 was $5.31 billion, up 7 percent from 2017. The increase in total value in Ohio was due to increased production of corn and soybeans, as well as price increases in corn and wheat, according to Cheryl Turner, state statistician of the USDA, NASS, Ohio Field Office. Some Ohio highlights from the report follow:

- Corn for grain value was up 12 percent to $2.25 billion in 2018. The average price was $3.65 per bushel.

- Soybean value of $2.53 billion increased 4 percent from 2017. The average price was $8.75 per bushel.

- All wheat value was up 2 percent to $170 million. The average price was $5.05 per bushel.

- Oat value increased 43 percent to $7.0 million. The average price was $3.60 per bushel.

Nationally:

- U.S. corn for grain value increased 4 percent to $51.5 billion in 2018.

- Soybean value in the U.S. was down 5 percent to $39.1 billion.

- U.S. all wheat value was up 17 percent to $9.70 billion.
