Farm Bureau Applauds Swift Legislative Action

By Jamie Martin

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has praised the U.S. Senate’s decision to end the government shutdown, calling it a vital step toward restoring stability for the nation’s farmers and ranchers.

AFBF President Zippy Duvall emphasized the importance of the Senate’s move in ensuring that agricultural producers continue to receive essential services and that families maintain access to nutrition programs.

"Farm Bureau commends the Senate for voting to end the government shutdown, ensuring that farmers and ranchers can continue to rely on critical USDA services and disaster relief to keep their farms running and also ensure Americans maintain access to food assistance programs," said Duvall.

He also recognized the Senate’s progress in approving key legislation, including the U.S. Grain Standards Act and vital farm bill programs, while authorizing USDA’s 2026 budget. These actions provide needed certainty to the agricultural sector during a time of global and domestic challenges.

“We also appreciate the Senate’s action to extend the U.S. Grain Standards Act and key farm bill programs, as well as authorizing USDA’s 2026 budget. These actions, along with the improvements to farm programs in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, will provide much-needed certainty for farmers as we work with Congress to pass a modernized five-year farm bill,” Duvall said.

Duvall urged lawmakers in the House of Representatives to take prompt action to finalize the bill. “Farm Bureau urges members of the House to act swiftly and pass this legislation so it can reach President Trump’s desk without delay," he concluded.

The AFBF remains committed to working with policymakers to ensure that agriculture continues to thrive through balanced legislation and reliable farm programs.
