USDEC strengthens ties with IICA for dairy progress
USAgNet - 09/29/2023
The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) is furthering its influential partnerships in Latin America. A renewed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) underscores this commitment. The organizations have united to advance cooperation in harmonizing science-based standards in food and agriculture, building on four fruitful years of collaboration.
USDEC, under the leadership of President and CEO Krysta Harden, is dedicated to fostering global dairy and agricultural trade flows. The council recognizes Latin America as a pivotal trading ally and aims to address common concerns. Recent visits to Mexico and Costa Rica highlighted the necessity for enhanced collaboration, achieved through the extended partnership with IICA.
Manuel Otero, IICA’s Director General, expressed delight in welcoming the U.S. dairy delegation. IICA, with 34 member countries, including the United States, has been a beacon for agricultural development since 1942. The organization values USDEC as a voice for farmers and manufacturers, appreciating their commitment to global food security.
The MOU aims to support science-based regulations, national capacity building, and international standard-setting forums. It emphasizes livestock's role in the global food system and shares best practices for sustainable productivity growth, fostering collaboration between government and private stakeholders.
This partnership aligns with USDEC’s previous agreements with Sociedad Rural Argentina and Chilean Federacion Nacional de Productores de Leche (Fedeleche). These collaborations have fortified USDEC’s relationships in Latin America, reflecting a concerted effort to drive innovation in productivity, sustainability, and technology in the dairy industry.
The joint initiative is a testament to the visionary leadership of USDEC and Dairy Management Inc. It represents a united front in addressing challenges and opportunities in the dairy sector, showcasing a commitment to fostering agricultural development and rural well-being through international technical cooperation.
