Farm Credit Mid-America partners with farmers to fight hunger

Farm Credit Mid-America is making a significant impact in the fight against hunger during National Hunger Action Month. Through their Farms to Food Banks program, they've provided over 4.4 million meals to those in need since 2016, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to rural communities and agriculture.

The Farms to Food Banks program acts as a crucial bridge, linking local farmers with food banks. In the coming weeks, Farm Credit Mid-America and Rural 1st® teams will visit farms to collect fresh produce for local food banks. Their mission is clear: to ensure that individuals in their served states have access to fresh food alongside their shelf-stable meals.

In 2023 alone, Farm Credit Mid-America and Rural 1st® have dedicated over 740 hours to volunteer at 29 food banks across multiple states. These food banks play a vital role in distributing millions of pounds of food, serving countless individuals in need.

Randy Barbee, Community Investment Manager for Farm Credit Mid-America, emphasizes the significance of the program. Despite tons of farm produce going to waste each year, millions still face hunger. The program showcases their commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting local communities.

In addition to their volunteer efforts, Farm Credit Mid-America has generously donated over $1 million to local food banks. These funds help purchase resources like cold storage to maintain the freshness of produce and protein.

National Hunger Action Month in September sees food banks working diligently to combat hunger. In 2022, millions turned to food banks for assistance, underlining the importance of such initiatives.

Farm Credit Mid-America's efforts are crucial in tackling food deserts, particularly in rural areas where access to nutritious food can be challenging. These regions often lack easy access to fresh, healthy food, making programs like Farms to Food Banks essential.

Their dedication showcases the positive impact of supporting communities and ensuring that everyone has access to fresh, nutritious food. Join Farm Credit Mid-America in their mission to combat hunger and make a difference in communities across the nation.
