Ohio Farm Bureau County President Discusses Importance

Farm Bill, regulations including Waters of the U.S., and trade are some of the policy issues Ohio Farm Bureau members discussed during congressional visits on Capitol Hill this week.

Franklin County Farm Bureau President John Hummel, a corn and soybean farmer from Canal Winchester, met with Congressman Troy Balderson.

During the visit, he highlighted the importance of maintaining crop insurance in the 2023 Farm Bill.

“It’s important we keep the crop insurance and crop protection side to keep that baseline underneath us,” he says. “With this price volatility we need to keep a safety net under us in case things go array. “

He tells Brownfield it’s especially critical heading into the planting season.

“With the price of inputs that skyrocketed we’re going to be putting out the most expensive crop we’ve aver raised. It’s important for us to be able to know that we have that safety net and protection so worst case scenario, we can cover our expenses and stay afloat,” he says.
