The 2026 OSU Winter Beef Series is a free online educational program designed to provide practical, research-based training for beef producers and livestock professionals. The webinar series brings together Extension specialists and industry experts to share updated management strategies that support herd health, productivity, and profitability.
All sessions are hosted via Zoom from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST. Participants can register online at https://go.osu.edu/beefschool26. For additional questions, participants may contact ruff.72@osu.edu.
The series begins on January 8 with Dairy Beef 101. This session focuses on proper care for dairy beef animals and explains how to maintain their health and continued production.
On January 22, Biosecurity for the Beef Herd will highlight the importance of disease prevention practices that protect herd health. This session emphasizes planning, hygiene, and risk reduction methods that reduce the spread of illness.
February 5 will feature Hay Quality Challenges in Ohio. This webinar will discuss common problems faced during hay production and offer guidance on better preparation for the upcoming hay season.
The February 19 session, Mineral for Beef Cows, will explain mineral supplementation needs, address common myths, and share updates from recent mineral research.
On March 5, Buyers Guide to Bull Selection will help participants understand the value of herd sires, cost considerations, and selection strategies that support stronger breeding programs.
The series concludes on March 19 with How Profitable is that Cow. This final webinar will cover cow-calf production economics and provide strategies to improve overall herd profitability.
The OSU Winter Beef Series offers simple and clear learning opportunities for students, new livestock producers, and experienced operations alike. The sessions focus on real-world solutions that help reduce risks, improve animal care, and support long-term sustainability in beef production.
