Enthusiasts Invited to Experience Ohio Rivers Symposium

An event that connects people with a love and passion for Ohio's rivers is coming to Columbus. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will host the 2nd Ohio Rivers Symposium on March 25.

This biennial event will feature presentations on invasive species, river prairies, headwater streams and streambank restoration, as well as exhibits, sponsors, and posters. River enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to listen to two keynote speakers:

  • Dr. Richard Moore, Ph.D., is an anthropologist who will present innovative strategies that combine social and natural science to promote stream ecology. Dr. Moore is a Senior Fellow with the Global Council for Science and the Environment and professor emeritus of the OSU School of Environment and Natural Resources.
  • Dr. Mazeika Sullivan, Ph.D., will speak about linkages between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and implications for conservation. Dr. Sullivan is a Professor, Associate Director, and Chief Diversity Officer in the OSU School of Environment and Natural Resources. He is also the Director of the Ramser-designated Shiermeier Olentangy River Wetlands Research Park.

The event will be held at Vila Milano, 1630 Schrock Road in Columbus, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The $45 attendance fee includes conference materials, a buffet lunch with a vegetarian option, and break refreshments. Virtual and student registration are also available at reduced rates. Registrations will be accepted here until Monday, March 21. You can also register, or request more details, over the phone by calling 330-466-5631.

The symposium is sponsored by the Scenic Rivers Program within the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Natural Areas and Preserves, the Water Management Association of Ohio, the Ohio Scenic Rivers Association and the Ohio Watershed Professionals Association.
