Farmers and farmland owners seeking guidance on tax planning and financial management will have an opportunity to learn from industry experts during the Income Tax Planning and Strategies for Farmers and Farmland Owners webinar. The educational program is scheduled for November 13, 2026, and will be presented as part of the Farm Office Live Series.
The webinar is designed to help agricultural producers, farmland owners, and individuals involved in farmland rental arrangements better understand current tax regulations and prepare for year-end financial decisions. Tax planning remains an important part of farm management, and staying informed about changing regulations can help improve financial outcomes and reduce potential tax liabilities.
The two-hour online program will be presented via Zoom by Barry Ward, Income Tax Schools at The Ohio State University, Jeff Lewis, Income Tax Schools at The Ohio State University, David Marrison, OSU Extension Educator, and Robert Moore, OSU Extension Educator. These experts will discuss a variety of tax-related topics that affect the agricultural sector.
Participants will receive updates on recent tax law changes and reminders that may impact farm operations and farmland ownership. The webinar will also cover year-end planning strategies for net farm income, helping producers evaluate financial decisions before filing tax returns.
Additional topics include depreciation rules, Section 179 deductions, bonus depreciation opportunities, and farm income averaging methods. Presenters will also discuss 1099 reporting requirements and compliance updates that are important for agricultural businesses.
The program will address special situations affecting farmers, including involuntary livestock sales due to drought conditions, disaster-related tax consequences, and research and development tax credits. Attendees will gain insights into state-specific issues such as Ohio sales tax regulations, the Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV) program, and Ohio property tax updates.
Estate planning will also be a key focus area. Experts will provide an overview of current estate tax developments and discuss strategies that may help farmland owners prepare for future ownership transitions. Other topics include qualified farmland sales, residual fertility deductions, fuel tax policy updates, and tax provisions related to biofuel production.
The webinar will also examine tax considerations for like-kind exchanges involving permanent utility easements and explain installment payment options available for certain farmland sales.
This educational event offers valuable information for farmers, landowners, and agricultural professionals who want to stay current on tax regulations and improve their financial planning. By participating in the webinar, attendees can gain practical knowledge to support sound business decisions and effective tax management throughout the year.
