North End Farmers Market: A Thriving Hub of Local Food and Community Engagement

North End Farmers Market: A Thriving Hub of Local Food and Community Engagement

The North End Farmers Market is set to return on June 1, bringing with it a vibrant atmosphere of local food and community engagement. Located at the Urban Farm of the North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC) in Mansfield, this eagerly anticipated market offers an array of fresh, locally grown products to satisfy the cravings of food enthusiasts and supporters of sustainable agriculture alike.

Running every Thursday from June through September, the market will operate from 4 to 7 p.m. at 311 Bowman Street. Visitors can expect a diverse selection of farm-fresh produce, locally sourced honey, farm-fresh eggs, beautiful flowers, and much more.

The Ohio Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program further enhances accessibility to healthy food options for low-income seniors. Eligible participants can receive up to $50 worth of coupons, which can be redeemed for Ohio-grown fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and honey. By providing this support, the program aims to promote well-being and improve nutrition among seniors.

Excitingly, the market will feature engaging cooking demonstrations each week, where local chefs, including members of the Idea Works Kitchen, will showcase their culinary skills using ingredients available for purchase. These demonstrations offer a delightful opportunity for visitors to sample delectable dishes and gain inspiration for their own culinary creations.

Mark your calendars for the fourth Thursday of each month, as the Buckeye Imagination District will host kid-friendly cooking classes, fostering a love for food and cooking among young attendees. Additionally, Senior Days, occurring every third Thursday, offer special activities such as free health screenings, senior-friendly cooking demonstrations, and lively onsite bingo.

NECIC is actively seeking volunteers to contribute their time and energy to the market's success. For those interested in volunteering or seeking information about the Ohio Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, reach out to Cheyla Bradley at 419-522-1611 ext. 106 or cheyla@necic-ohio.org.

As the North End Farmers Market returns on June 1, the anticipation for a season filled with abundant local produce, culinary delights, and community spirit continues to grow. Be sure to visit this thriving hub of fresh food and engagement, supporting local farmers and experiencing the true essence of Mansfield's vibrant food culture.
