Ohio Corn Growers Support Farm to Fly Act for Clean Fuel

By Andi Anderson

The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association has expressed strong support for the Farm to Fly Act, introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on February 27, 2025.

Sponsored by Ohio Congressman Max Miller, the bill encourages the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) using agricultural products like corn. A companion bill, S.144, was introduced in the Senate earlier this year.

The bipartisan legislation allows the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop programs that promote SAF production, linking American farmers with the aviation sector. This initiative supports clean energy solutions while creating new economic opportunities for growers.

“The Farm to Fly Act is a win for Ohio growers,” said Tyler Drewes, President of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “Ohio farmers are proud to contribute to clean, renewable fuel solutions for aviation.”

Beyond environmental benefits, the bill boosts demand for crops, strengthens energy security, and creates fuel-related jobs. Executive Director Tadd Nicholson highlighted how the initiative strengthens Ohio’s agricultural economy while enhancing national security.

The Farm to Fly Act focuses on three key areas:

  • Expanding agricultural markets for SAF within USDA Bio-Energy Programs.
  • Strengthening public-private partnerships for biofuel development.
  • Establishing a clear definition of SAF to streamline industry adoption.

Congressman Miller emphasized the bill’s role in opening new markets for farmers and enhancing domestic energy independence. “This legislation lifts American farmers to new heights and strengthens our energy supply,” he stated.

The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association looks forward to working with policymakers to advance this critical initiative, ensuring a strong future for agriculture and renewable energy.
