The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation celebrated outstanding contributions to agriculture during its 106th annual meeting on Dec. 12, 2024, by awarding Distinguished Service Awards to Dr. John Mossbarger, Sen. Rob Portman, and Jane Scott.

Dr. John Mossbarger

Dr. Mossbarger, a veterinarian and president of Midland Acres, has been a cornerstone of Ohio’s equine industry, contributing to its $1 billion value. He is a former president of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and has served on the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation board. His accolades include the Ohio Harness Racing Hall of Fame induction in 2024. Mossbarger’s career is marked by his dedication to fostering relationships within the equine community and advancing the industry’s future.

Sen. Rob Portman

Sen. Portman has had a distinguished public service career spanning three decades, serving in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Known for his bipartisan efforts, Portman played a key role in passing significant legislation, including the 2012 and 2018 farm bills. He also contributed to infrastructure improvements critical to agriculture. Currently, he leads the Portman Center for Policy Solutions at the University of Cincinnati and continues to influence public policy.

Jane Scott

Jane Scott is a pioneer in Ohio’s wine industry, co-founding two wineries and serving on multiple agricultural boards. She has been instrumental in branding Ohio agriculture through initiatives like the Ohio Proud program. As a community leader, she spent two decades as CEO of the Columbus Metropolitan Club, fostering connections between the agricultural and business sectors.

The Distinguished Service Awards highlight the Ohio Farm Bureau’s mission to advance agriculture and strengthen communities through collaborative efforts. These leaders’ contributions exemplify the values of innovation, service, and dedication to Ohio’s farming legacy.
