NFU Celebrates Leaders Protecting Family Agriculture

By Andi Anderson

National Farmers Union has recognized two exceptional agricultural leaders with its highest honor—the Award for Meritorious Service to Farmers Union and to American Agriculture.

Dr. Dale McCall of Colorado and Joe Logan of Ohio were selected for their leadership, dedication, and lifelong service to family farmers across the country.

This award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of family farm agriculture and strengthened the mission of Farmers Union.

NFU President Rob Larew praised this year’s honorees, stating, “The 2026 recipients of the Meritorious Service Award embody a lifelong commitment to Farmers Union and the safeguarding of family farms. Dale McCall and Joe Logan have demonstrated unwavering dedication to our community, and I am proud to recognize them for their service.”

Dr. Dale McCall spent more than four decades championing local agriculture, mentoring young producers, and strengthening rural communities. His leadership as president of the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union allowed him to advocate for the needs of farmers across Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico.

McCall also served on the NFU Board of Directors and Executive Committee, where he worked to elevate farmer voices in policy discussions. Beyond his work with Farmers Union, he contributed greatly to agricultural education as president of the Colorado FFA Foundation and as executive director of the Colorado Board of Cooperative Educational Services. His farm will now be cared for by his grandchildren, continuing his legacy.

Joe Logan, a fifth‑generation farmer, played an essential role in growing the impact of the Ohio Farmers Union. His leadership strengthened the organization’s internal operations and expanded partnerships across the state.

As president, he worked to ensure that the concerns of family farmers and rural communities were heard at every level of government.

Logan continued to serve Farmers Union even while operating Logan Brothers Ag Enterprises, demonstrating his deep commitment to agricultural advocacy. His leadership helped bring stability and momentum to the Ohio Farmers Union.

Both honorees have demonstrated a rare level of passion and service to American agriculture.

The National Farmers Union presents the Award for Meritorious Service to individuals and families who have made exceptional contributions to the protection and advancement of family farms. The accomplishments of McCall and Logan reflect the values of Farmers Union and serve as an inspiration to farm leaders nationwide.
