Ohio Farmers Union Summer Picnic Focuses on Key Rural Issues

Ohio Farmers Union Summer Picnic Focuses on Key Rural Issues

By Andi Anderson

The Ohio Farmers Union is organizing its annual Summer Picnic on July 11, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at Seminary Hill Farms, located at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio in Delaware. This gathering provides an important opportunity for farmers to come together, share ideas, and discuss important topics affecting rural communities.

The picnic is open to all, with free entry for current Ohio Farmers Union members. Non-members can attend by paying a fee of $15. Participants are encouraged to register in advance, with the RSVP deadline set for June 25. This ensures proper arrangements for all attendees.

The day will begin with registration at 9:00 a.m., followed by an introduction session led by Joe Logan. The main discussions for this year will focus on two critical topics: data centers and rural health. These issues are increasingly affecting farming communities and require careful attention and understanding.

Molly Bryden from Policy Matters Ohio will lead the discussion on data centers. This session will help farmers understand how the growth of data centers may influence land use, energy consumption, and rural economies. Later, Dr. Brian Hambley will discuss rural health, highlighting the challenges faced by farming communities in accessing proper healthcare services.

A lunch session will be provided at noon, giving participants time to relax and interact with others. After lunch, a board meeting will take place, followed by an optional farm tour at 2:00 p.m. This tour will allow attendees to observe farming practices and learn directly from the field.

The event will conclude at 4:00 p.m. For those planning to arrive a day earlier, accommodation is available at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio. Interested participants must complete an overnight registration form by July 8 and use the code OFU.
