Ohio Ag Connection - 11/15/2023

The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) is poised to take a significant step in supporting the state's foremost industry, food and agriculture, with the new veterinary diagnostic laboratory.

Slated for November 16, 2023, the new facility, named the Ohio Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (OVDL), will replace the current Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) and located in the Dr. Tony Forshey Animal Health Building, with completion expected by 2026.

This state-of-the-art laboratory, through advanced testing services, will play a critical role in safeguarding both public and animal health. It currently conducts an impressive 452,000 tests annually, averaging 1,738 tests daily. The enhanced capacity and modern facilities of the OVDL are set to bring more business back to Ohio, benefiting local farmers, producers, and the broader community.

Key figures such as ODA Director Brian Baldridge, State Veterinarian Dr. Dennis Summers, and representatives from the Ohio Office of Budget and Management, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, and Select Sires will attend the groundbreaking ceremony.

This event represents a major advancement for Ohio in veterinary science and agricultural health, marking a new era of innovation and service in the field.
