ODA invests $12.6 million in resilient food system infrastructure
Ohio Ag Connection - 02/20/2024

The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) announces a significant boost to the state's food supply chain with $12.6 million in funding secured through the federal Resilient Food System Infrastructure (RFSI) Program. This initiative aims to strengthen the middle of the food chain, supporting businesses and producers involved in crucial supply chain activities.

Director Brian Baldridge emphasizes the importance of a robust agricultural community in building a strong Ohio. The RFSI grant program will channel funds into projects that enhance supply chain coordination, establish advanced processing centers, and improve the distribution of Ohio products, making them more accessible, affordable, and efficient. Additionally, the funding may contribute to the construction, expansion, and modernization of supply chain facilities.

The RFSI Program aligns with the goal of creating new revenue streams for Ohio producers, circulating profits within rural communities, and diversifying processing options. Interested parties can apply for funding directly through ODA until March 15, 2024. ODA encourages applications catering to smaller farms, new and beginning farmers, veteran producers, underserved producers, and communities.

ODA collaborates with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Marketing Service to administer the program. Detailed guidelines, project requirements, and eligibility information can be found on ODA's website. This investment underscores ODA's commitment to fostering a resilient and sustainable food system in Ohio.
