Ohio Egg Farms Donate to Families in Need

Egg farmers across America are teaming up to feed families ahead of spring celebrations as part of a nationwide initiative led by the American Egg Board called Fighting Hunger by the Dozens.

Cooper Farms of Fort Recovery, Weaver Eggs of Versailles, Hertzfeld Poultry Farms of Grand Rapids, and Trillium Farms of Hartford are four of the more than 20 farms participating in the initiative, which will provide more than 5.5 million eggs to food insecure individuals and families. These family-owned-and operated farms are also members of the Ohio Poultry Association, which represents more than 1,000 egg, chicken and turkey farmers across the state.

Those in need of nourishing food often struggle to find access to versatile, high-quality proteins. Eggs are a good source of protein, containing numerous vitamins and minerals needed for healthy living and are vital meeting the daily nutritional needs of Americans. Collectively, these four farms donated 280,800 eggs, which will provide thousands of meals for Ohio residents. Across the country, a total of 458,300 dozen eggs will be donated by America’s egg farmers this spring – one of the largest total egg donations in history.

“Ohio’s egg, chicken and turkey farmers are passionate about lending a helping hand, producing nutritious food, caring for our animals and protecting the environment for future generations,” said Jim Chakeres, executive vice president of the Ohio Poultry Association. “Our farmers are dedicated to making a difference in their local communities year-round. As Easter and spring celebrations approach, it’s especially important for us to ensure our friends and neighbors have access to nutritious, wholesome, locally raised eggs.”
