New Farm Bill Brings Big Changes

New Farm Bill Brings Big Changes

By Andi Anderson

The “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act has officially passed, signaling major developments in U.S. farm policy. This comprehensive legislation includes updates designed to support producers financially and ensure the sustainability of agriculture.

Luke Crumley, Director of Public Policy & Sustainability, highlights the key components farmers need to understand. The new bill enhances funding for crop insurance programs, provides greater support for commodity programs, and improves disaster relief assistance — all of which aim to reduce risk for farmers and ranchers.

One of the standout features is expanded access to conservation and sustainability programs. Farmers will find more financial incentives to adopt soil health practices, cover cropping, and water management solutions, aligning with growing market and environmental demands.

The bill also boosts rural development efforts by increasing investments in rural broadband, clean energy infrastructure, and local food systems. These updates are expected to make rural communities more connected, resilient, and competitive.

Financially, the legislation raises reference prices for major crops, adjusts income eligibility thresholds, and modernizes loan limits — easing access to credit for small and mid-sized farms. This helps producers better manage costs and plan for future growth.

Crumley encourages farmers to watch a new explainer video that breaks down the act’s provisions and their practical impact on daily operations.

As with any major policy change, it is important for farmers to review the act’s provisions closely and talk to their local advisors or FSA offices to understand how their specific operations may be impacted.
