A wet, warm month of March has Ohio looking to planting season.
The USDA says average statewide precipitation was 1.5 inches above most years and while there was some variance, the average statewide temperature was more than a degree above normal.
That wet weather helped improve soil moisture levels ahead of planting with the state now reporting a surplus on more than half of topsoil and nearly a third of subsoil.
Some counties in southwestern Ohio saw more than six inches of rain.
58% of the winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, up 4% on the month, with farmers top dressing and applying supplementary nutrients.
