Dry August Reduces Ohio Corn, Soybean Potential

A dry August reduced 2020 corn and soybean yield potential in Ohio, according to Cheryl Turner, state statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. Both corn and soybean yield forecasts are down from last month's forecast but are up from last year's weather beaten crop.

Highlights of the September 1 Crop Production report follow:

- Ohio's average corn yield is forecast at 172 bushels per acre, 8 bushels above last year but down 3 bushels from last month's forecast. Total production is forecast at 585 million bushels, up 39 percent from last year.

- Soybean yield is forecast at 56 bushels per acre, up 7 bushels from last year but down 2 bushels from last month's forecast. Total production is forecast at 268 million bushels, up 28 percent from last year.
