Ohio Ag Connection - 11/14/2023

Auglaize County's OSU Extension Office proudly welcomes Jacob Winters as the new Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Educator. Growing up on a Southeast Ohio goat farm and with a family background in education, Winters brings a unique perspective to his role.

Winters' roots in agriculture trace back to his family's 40-acre goat farm and his mother’s role as a 4H Extension Educator in Gallia County. His involvement in 4H and FFA during his youth laid a strong foundation for his current path.

Before joining the Auglaize County team, Winters worked as the District Technician at The Athens Soil and Water Conservation District. This role gave him hands-on experience in consulting with landowners and addressing agricultural concerns.

In his new position, Winters aims to revitalize agricultural programs to meet the community's needs. He plans to reintroduce the Master Gardeners Program and focus on improving soil health across the county, emphasizing the benefits of healthy soil in enhancing crop resilience and yield.

Winters also intends to maintain popular initiatives, such as the newsletters and bug trapping programs, while seeking to engage more landowners in these efforts.

He has already scheduled meetings with local advisory groups to understand community needs better. Winters has been warmly received in Auglaize County, appreciating the familiar small-town vibe that reminds him of his upbringing.

Jacob Winters can be reached for further information or queries at the Auglaize County OSU Extension Office, contact number 419-910-6060. His appointment marks a promising new chapter for the agricultural community in Auglaize County.
