Ag Startup Contest Seeks 2026 Applicants

By Jamie Martin

The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF), in collaboration with Farm Credit, is now accepting applications for the 2026 Farm Bureau Ag Innovation Challenge.

Entrepreneurs developing creative solutions for the agricultural sector are encouraged to apply online by June 9.

This nationwide business competition, now in its 12th year, highlights startups that are helping tackle the unique challenges faced by farmers, ranchers, and rural communities throughout the United States.

A total of $145,000 in startup funding will be awarded during the competition. The grand prize winner will receive $100,000, while the runner-up will be awarded $25,000. Additionally, two other finalists will each receive $10,000.

“This competition supports incredible entrepreneurs who are making sure agriculture is ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” said AFBF President Zippy Duvall. “If you have a vision for how your business can drive agriculture forward, apply today.”

Ten semi-finalists will be announced on August 4 after the application window closes. These teams will present their ideas virtually for a chance to move forward to the final four. Each finalist team will receive $10,000 and participate in a live pitch event during the AFBF Convention in January 2026, set to take place in Anaheim, California.

The final round will determine:

  • The Ag Innovation Challenge Winner, receiving $90,000 in addition to the initial $10,000 award (totaling $100,000)
  • The Runner-up, who will get an extra $15,000 (totaling $25,000)

The Challenge is made possible through the support of sponsors including Farm Credit, Bayer Crop Science, John Deere, Farm Bureau Bank, Farm Bureau Financial Services, and T-Mobile.

Past winners include Gripp, which helps farmers track assets and streamline communication (2025 winner), and Barn Owl Precision Agriculture, known for its autonomous farming robots (2024 winner). More information about previous participants, eligibility, and key dates can be found at fb.org/challenge.

To be eligible for the top 10 semi-finalist spots, applicants must be Farm Bureau members in their home state. Those who are not yet members can visit fb.org/about/get-involved to join.

All applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 9.
