The Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) invites the public to learn about sustainable farming practices during their 2024 Farm Tour and Workshop Series.
This year, the series includes 24 diverse events, featuring farm tours in Ohio and Michigan, alongside a variety of educational workshops aimed at farmers, gardeners, educators, and food consumers.
Participants will experience a variety of farming environments, from goat milk herds and organic produce farms to diversified fruits and organic pork operations.
Highlights include the Goat Milk Herd Share Farm Tour at Everyday Acres and the Organic Produce Farm Tour at Hostetler’s Organics. Each tour is designed to provide a comprehensive look into different facets of farming, emphasizing organic and ecological practices.
OEFFA will also host a series of educational workshops. These events are set to cover a wide range of topics including organic certification processes, farm employment laws, and local food grants.
The workshops aim to equip attendees with the knowledge to navigate the complexities of modern farming successfully. Notable sessions include "Organics 101", a virtual series spread over several months, and "Land Leasing Basics", providing crucial insights into agricultural property management.
These events are part of a broader effort to promote sustainable agriculture and educate the public on the importance of ecological farming practices. Collaborations with institutions like Central State University Extension and The Ohio State University further enrich the offerings, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
All scheduled events are free and open to the public, with detailed information and registration available at oeffa.org/farmtours.
This comprehensive series is not just an opportunity to see farming in action but also a platform for networking and learning directly from experienced practitioners about the nuances of ecological and organic farming.
