Boldly Grown Farm, nestled in Washington’s Skagit Valley, is reaping the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act through improved energy efficiency measures funded by the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).
The farm, known for its organic fall and winter vegetables, embarked on a project to insulate their packing warehouse, a move that significantly cut down their energy usage and heating costs.
Owners Amy Frye and Jacob Slosberg, who also run a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and a year-round farm stand, collaborated with the local Skagit Conservation District and the NRCS to implement the insulation improvements.
Completed in October 2023, the enhancements were crucial for maintaining optimal temperatures during the cold months, crucial for their crop types.
“It is definitely saving us money and energy,” Jacob confirmed. The project not only reduced the energy required to heat the warehouse but also minimized the risk of cold damage to their stored produce. This initiative has broader implications beyond just cost savings.
By increasing the farm's produce storage capacity, it enhances local food access and reduces transportation-related emissions.
Through the support of NRCS and the application of EQIP funding, Boldly Grown Farm continues to exemplify sustainable farming practices, further contributing to environmental conservation and a stronger local food system.
