Ohio State Fair Celebrated Veterans with Fun Filled Activities

By Andi Anderson

The 2025 Ohio State Fair officially kicked off with a packed schedule on July 27. This day was observed as Veterans & Military Day, dedicated to honoring those who have served the nation.

Veterans and active military members received free admission with proper identification—not just on this day, but every day of the fair.

The fairgrounds were full of excitement with free live entertainment. Families enjoyed Louie Foxx's one-man comedy and magic act, while jazz lovers gathered at the Natural Resources Park Amphitheater for a performance by Grammy-nominated J London.

The Ohio Lottery Gazebo Stage featured crowd-favorite ventriloquist Steve Brogan & Company, bringing laughter with their unique blend of comedy and audience interaction.

Animal lovers found joy watching Retriever Dogs in Action, presented by Rural 1st, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Ag-Pro Companies Taft Coliseum hosted thrilling Wild West Horseback Riding shows throughout the day. Meanwhile, the Pig Races drew cheering crowds with five exciting rounds in The Barnyard.

The fair also showcased creative talents, with the final day of the Live Mural Painting Competition at the Cardinal Patio. Ohio artists completed large, vibrant murals on-site as spectators watched their visions come to life.

Livestock competitions were a key part of the day’s activities. Visitors saw the Guys and Gals Lead Line Sheep Show at 10 a.m., followed by a Shearing Demonstration and Junior and Open Wool Sheep Shows at 2 p.m. in the Brown Sheep Building presented by Kubota.

The night ended with a free Taylor Swift tribute concert, “Let’s Sing: Taylor,” at the WCOL Celeste Center, included with fair admission.

Visitors were allowed to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks, but glass containers were not permitted.
