The Small Farm Management College will be held in February 2025 at Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio. This program is designed for new and aspiring farmers, rural landowners, and small farm families aiming to maximize their farm’s potential. Participants will gain practical knowledge to boost their small farm’s profitability.

The program runs every Wednesday evening from February 5 to February 26, 6:30-9:00 PM. The registration fee is $80 for the first family member, with additional family members charged $40 each. Each family receives one comprehensive binder of resources, and attendees are encouraged to participate in all sessions.

Session Highlights:

Session 1: Getting Started on Your New Farm Business (Feb 5)

Learn to set realistic expectations, assess property resources, and draft a farm mission. Explore income and expense management and create a farm business plan.

Session 2: Tracking Farm Success (Feb 12)

Focus on recordkeeping, using enterprise budgets for income projections, and an introduction to farm taxes.

Session 3: Legal Insights for Farmers (Feb 19)

Understand farm legal structures, leases, contracts, and permits. Learn about liability concerns for selling farm products.

Session 4: Financial Management for Farms (Feb 26)

Develop balance sheets, financial statements, and financing strategies. Finalize a comprehensive farm business plan.

This 10-hour program offers actionable insights to help participants set achievable goals, identify strengths and weaknesses, and establish a farm business plan tailored to their property.
