Ohio state's 2024 organic grains conference set for January
Ohio Ag Connection - 11/17/2023

The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) is hosting a two-day conference on January 4-5, 2024, aimed at promoting organic grain production growth in Ohio and providing insights into the economic outlook of the organic grain market.

The conference, organized by Eric Richer, an assistant professor and Ohio State University Extension field specialist in farm management, will be held at the Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center in Toledo, Ohio, and is designed for experienced organic growers, those transitioning to organic farming, and consultants or educators.

Attendees can look forward to 16 informative workshops covering topics like alternative weed management, high-tech tools for organic grain, organic inspection preparation, and economic performance of organic farms.

The conference will feature esteemed speakers from CFAES, Lakeview Organic Grain, Rodale Institute, Washington State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A preconference dinner and brainstorming session on January 3 sets the stage for collaborative discussions. Farmer-led roundtables will provide a platform for growers to share experiences and pose questions. Steve Turnow, an organic grain farmer from Ottawa County, Ohio, highlights the value of such interactions and the quality of speakers from the previous year.

The conference, presented by OSU Extension and Ohio State’s Organic Food and Farming Education and Research (OFFER) program, offers early bird registration until December 1 for $100 per person, after which the fee is $130. Certified Crop Advisors attending the conference are also eligible for continuing education credits.
