Getting Started with Goats Made Easy for Beginners

Getting Started with Goats Made Easy for Beginners

By Andi Anderson

Starting a goat farm can feel overwhelming, but Ohio State University Extension is making it easier with their latest resource, Getting Started with Goats.

This 2024 spring webinar recording is now available for anyone interested in raising goats for farming, exhibition, or personal use.

Led by OSU Extension experts, the webinar offers clear guidance to new and small farm owners. It begins with helping you define your farm goals, then teaches you how to meet them with practical advice on goat breeding, feeding, and housing.

The session also includes a beginner-friendly introduction to pasture setup and explores the uses of goat milk, making it helpful for both hobbyists and aspiring dairy farmers.

This webinar is ideal for people raising goats for personal consumption, exhibitions, or small-scale dairy purposes. It's a great way to understand the daily care needs of goats, what type of shelter they require, and how to maintain a healthy environment for your animals.

OSU’s Small Farm Team created this resource as part of their ongoing support for new and small-scale farmers in Ohio and beyond.

Interested learners are encouraged to subscribe to sheep.osu.edu to receive updates about the All About Goats! 2025 Fall Webinar Series, which begins in September.

Whether you're planning to add goats to your backyard or thinking about launching a small goat-based business, this free educational content offers a strong starting point.

Watch the webinar now and take your first steps toward a successful goat farming journey with confidence and expert advice.
