The Muskingum County Farm Bureau is offering a summer internship for one individual to support various agricultural programs and assist with the "Building for the Future of Agriculture" exhibit at the Muskingum County Fair.
This position allows the intern to engage directly with leaders in Ohio agriculture and government and gain valuable experience in program coordination and public outreach.
Internship Duration and Structure
This paid internship runs from June until August 18, totaling 300 hours. The selected intern will play a key role in preparing, managing, and staffing the exhibit, providing guidance to youth volunteers, and collaborating closely with Farm Bureau staff and local partners.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will:
- Support Exhibit Development: Collaborate with Farm Bureau staff, committee members, exhibit partners, and contractors to design and implement the "Building for the Future of Agriculture" exhibit. Responsibilities include assisting in budget management, developing educational components, incorporating virtual reality features, and coordinating exhibit setup and teardown.
- Staff Coordination: Organize staffing schedules and training for Farm Bureau staff, volunteers, and allied groups. The intern will also develop a daily procedure manual to ensure smooth operation throughout the fair.
- Media Relations: Work with the Farm Bureau team to create media packets and develop strategies for promoting the exhibit’s educational aspects to the public through media outreach.
- Youth Education Program: Aid in designing and implementing a youth agricultural education program that complements the exhibit’s themes, working alongside Ohio Farm Bureau staff to deliver engaging educational content.
- Serve as Agriculture Ambassador: Represent Ohio agriculture to fair attendees, promoting awareness and engagement with the agricultural community.
- Assist with Summer Programs: Help organize and execute additional summer educational programs run by the Muskingum County Farm Bureau.
Requirements
Candidates must be enrolled or entering a post-secondary education program, preferably in agriculture, education, or communication, and should have a GPA of at least 3.0.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in both indoor and outdoor conditions. Reliable transportation and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint) are also necessary. Availability is required daily during the fair (Aug. 6–18) and for pre-event setup.
