The Ohio Agriculture and Rural Communities 2026 Action Plan present a detailed roadmap designed to strengthen Ohio’s farming sector and support rural communities.
This plan guides policymakers and Ohio Farm Bureau members as they work to address rising production costs, farmland pressures, and the challenges farmers face in a changing economy. With input prices uncertain and food costs rising for consumers, Ohio’s agriculture industry requires steady policy support to remain competitive and sustainable.
A major priority of the plan is preserving Ohio’s farming heritage. The Farm Bureau will encourage policies that balance economic development with farmland protection through smart growth planning, brownfield redevelopment, and local land‑use strategies.
They also aim to support responsible energy development by reviewing the agricultural and environmental impacts of large projects.
Additional efforts include pushing for stronger landowner protections, reforming eminent domain laws, and ensuring that local projects involving private land consider the needs of farmers.
The plan also focuses on promoting a strong business climate. This includes advocating for property tax reforms that support farmers, advancing a long‑term farm bill for operational certainty, and supporting legislation that helps address farm labor needs.
Expanding broadband and improving infrastructure in underserved rural areas remain key goals. The Farm Bureau also supports value‑added agriculture, better access to local food markets, and increased trade opportunities for Ohio-grown products.
Creating a responsible regulatory environment is another central objective. The organization will continue promoting science‑based regulations that help farmers remain productive and sustainable.
This includes advocating for clear and fair water‑quality policies and supporting updated rules for essential agricultural technologies. The plan also supports growth in biofuel and bioproduct markets, including year‑round E15 availability.
The action plan highlights the importance of building healthy rural communities by expanding access to healthcare services, improving mental‑health support for people involved in agriculture, and offering affordable health‑care options through Farm Bureau Health Plans.
It also prioritizes improved childcare access, career and technical education, and strong agricultural programs like FFA and 4‑H.
Finally, the plan emphasizes grassroots advocacy. The Farm Bureau will help members engage in political education during the 2026 election cycle, connect with elected officials, participate in leadership programs, and use communication tools to influence policy decisions at every level of government.
