A new training opportunity is now available for individuals beginning careers as professional applicators in Ohio. The Ohio AgriBusiness Association has introduced a Custom Applicator Training Program designed for applicators with up to three years of experience.
The program focuses on building strong technical skills while supporting safe and responsible application practices.
The training is offered in partnership with Ohio State University through its College of Food Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, known as CFAES. Together, the organizations aim to prepare new applicators for the demands of today’s agriculture industry.
This four-day course provides hands on instruction and classroom learning. Participants receive training in both liquid and dry application methods, helping them understand proper equipment use and accurate product delivery. The program also covers stewardship and safety practices, which are critical for protecting crops, people, and the environment.
In addition to application techniques, the course addresses current regulations and how they affect professional applicators. Technology use is also included, allowing participants to learn how modern tools support efficiency and accuracy. The training highlights the important role applicators play in customer service and overall business success within agricultural operations.
Enrollment is limited to 30 participants to allow meaningful interaction with instructors and practical learning experiences. Registration is handled by company, with a maximum of three participants allowed per company. If space permits, additional applicants may be placed on a wait list. This structure helps ensure balanced participation and strong engagement throughout the program.
A key feature of the training is the opportunity for participants to take the Ohio Pesticide Certification Test. The exam is offered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture on the final afternoon of the course. This allows participants to complete training and certification preparation in one setting.
The Custom Applicator Training Program supports workforce development in agriculture by helping new applicators gain confidence, knowledge, and professional skills needed for long term success in the field.
