Ohio Organic Grains Conference Returns

Ohio Organic Grains Conference Returns

By Andi Anderson

Organic grain farmers and those considering the transition to organic production will have an opportunity to learn from leading experts at the fourth annual Ohio State Organic Grains Conference on January 7–8, 2026.

The two-day event will take place at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio, and is designed to support new, transitioning, and experienced growers, as well as educators and consultants who work with organic producers.

The conference will feature an impressive lineup of speakers who will share research findings, practical insights, and strategies for successful organic grain farming.

Presenters for 2026 include Willie Hughes of W. Hughes Farm in Wisconsin, Dr. Matt Ryan from Cornell University, Dr. Aaron Wilson, Ohio State’s climate and agricultural weather specialist, and Nate Powell-Palm from the Organic Agronomy Training Service (OATS). Additional panelists and instructors will lead discussions on soil health, crop rotations, management practices, and other key agronomic topics.

Participants will also benefit from a variety of breakout sessions designed to address real-world challenges in organic production. These sessions will cover management tools, climate considerations, and marketing opportunities specific to organic grains.

One of the sessions will focus on farmland leasing options to support organic farming operations, giving attendees a deeper understanding of how to manage land access and rental agreements effectively.

The conference is organized by the OSU Farm Office and Ohio State’s Organic Food & Farming Education and Research (OFFER) program.

Planning support comes from a collaborative committee that includes land-grant researchers, extension staff, and organic farmers from Ohio and nearby states, ensuring that the program reflects the needs and experiences of working producers.

Advance registration is available at a discounted rate of $140 per person through December 5. Registration increases to $175 from December 6 through December 26, with an additional fee for walk-in attendees.

Certified Crop Advisors will also have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits during the conference.
