The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) is taking proactive steps to ensure ride safety at the upcoming Ohio State Fair. The ODA's Division of Amusement Ride Safety will be discussing their efforts to protect the well-being of everyone who enjoys rides at carnivals, fairs, festivals, and amusement parks.
The press conference, featuring ODA Director Brian Baldridge and other key speakers, will be held on July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds.
The Division of Amusement Ride Safety carries out thousands of ride inspections annually, covering all 94 county and independent fairs, as well as the Ohio State Fair. Inspectors meticulously assess ride structures, safety systems, signage, and general operations. Last year alone, they completed over 4,000 inspections on nearly 3,000 rides.
The new initiative highlighted at the press conference is the ODA's RideWatch program. This public reporting system allows anyone to report safety concerns about amusement rides. Reports can be submitted online or by calling the ODA's RideWatch hotline at 1-800-282-0027.
By encouraging the public to report any safety concerns, the ODA aims to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience while enjoying the rides at carnivals, fairs, festivals, and amusement parks.
