Ryan Matthews of Leesburg has been appointed director of communications and media relations for the Ohio Farm Bureau. In his new role, he will serve as the main contact for journalists covering agriculture, food, environment, and public policy topics.
He will also help develop content across the Farm Bureau’s digital and print platforms and support members in public engagement.
Matthews brings a strong background in agricultural leadership and advocacy. A graduate of The Ohio State University with degrees in political science and agricultural communications, he also holds a master’s in Christian ministries from Liberty University.
His involvement in Ohio agriculture began early. Matthews was active in 4-H, served as the 2017–2018 Ohio FFA state president, and was an Ag Future of America alum. He also led the Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter at OSU and represented the Land & Living exhibit at the Ohio State Fair.
Before joining the Ohio Farm Bureau, Matthews worked as a communications specialist for the American Farm Bureau Federation. There, he supported executive leadership by drafting speeches, columns, and public messaging on critical agricultural policy topics.
He also provided logistical and communications support for AFBF President Zippy Duvall during national events.
In his new position, Matthews will help Ohio Farm Bureau members connect with public officials and consumers, ensuring that their voices are heard on key agricultural issues. His broad experience makes him a valuable addition to the team.
The Ohio Farm Bureau continues its mission of working together to advance agriculture and strengthen communities.
