Bird Flu Affects Ohio Egg Farm, 2.6 Million Chickens to be Removed

Bird Flu Affects Ohio Egg Farm, 2.6 Million Chickens to be Removed

By Andi Anderson

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) hit an Ohio egg farm in Hardin County. To prevent the illness from spreading, they need to take out more than 2.6 million chickens. This happened after 1.3 million chickens were removed at another farm in Union County.

When this illness is found they isolate the area and remove the birds to stop the sickness from spreading. They also watch other nearby farms carefully.

The farm said they're working quickly to handle the problem. They're working with government groups to protect other poultry farms nearby. They say this bird flu doesn't affect people's health, and the eggs are safe to eat.

It's a reminder of how easily the illness spreads through wild birds' droppings and nose stuff.

Last year, nearly 58 million birds were removed because of this sickness. This shows how serious this problem is and why it's important to stop it from spreading.
