Buckeye Tick Test Laboratory Opens for Public Tick Testing

By Andi Anderson

The Buckeye Tick Testing Laboratory at Ohio State University is officially open and ready to serve the public. As tick populations and tick-borne diseases continue to rise in Ohio, this new facility offers a critical service to protect both people and animals.

Ohio now has six medically important tick species, including blacklegged ticks, American dog ticks, lone star ticks, gulf coast ticks, Asian longhorned ticks, and brown dog ticks. Each of these ticks can carry harmful pathogens that cause illnesses in humans and animals.

The Buckeye Tick Test Laboratory aims to address this growing threat by offering cost-effective tick-borne pathogen testing. Individuals can submit ticks for analysis and receive results within 72 hours. These results can then be shared with doctors or veterinarians for appropriate action.

Beyond helping individuals, the lab’s testing data will contribute to public tick pathogen surveillance, offering valuable insights into the spread of tick-borne diseases across Ohio.

The Buckeye Tick Test staff is committed to providing high-quality testing for families, pets, and livestock. They offer easy instructions for collecting and submitting ticks, along with clear pricing information, available on their website at https://buckeyebugbite.osu.edu/.

By making fast, affordable tick testing widely available, the Buckeye Tick Test Laboratory is helping Ohioans stay healthier and more informed. This important resource comes at a time when early detection of tick-borne diseases is more vital than ever.
