In celebration of Ohio’s first Soil Health Week, a special breakfast event will be hosted by the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) at Ohio State University on November 12.
This Environmental Professionals Network (EPN) gathering will bring together farmers, environmentalists, and researchers to explore soil health's role in supporting Ohio’s agricultural and ecological future.
Ohio Soil Health Week, organized by the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) and the Ohio Soil Health Initiative, aims to raise awareness of soil’s critical role in sustaining agriculture and the environment.
Held annually during the second week of November, the event includes educational programs designed to emphasize soil’s role in supporting healthy ecosystems and human well-being.
The breakfast will feature discussions on soil health science and policy, focusing on how healthy soil promotes better crop yields, stores water, and filters pollutants.
Experts from Ohio State University and Central State University will lead conversations about advancements in soil health research. Topics include nutrient cycling, carbon and water storage, and the role of soil in promoting nutrient-rich plants.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to honor the legacy of sustainable farming advocates who contributed to soil health awareness. SENR researchers will discuss the vital role of soil health in agriculture, emphasizing the importance of long-term soil conservation for food production and environmental resilience.
Soil health plays an essential part in Ohio’s land-grant mission, enabling collaboration between researchers and farmers to enhance agricultural systems for future generations.
Throughout Ohio Soil Health Week, Ohio producers and environmentalists will gather to discuss innovative approaches to soil management and conservation, sharing valuable insights that contribute to the broader agricultural community.
This breakfast event will offer a platform for Ohio farmers and soil health advocates to engage, celebrate achievements, and explore future opportunities in sustainable soil management.
