Drought can create significant challenges for farmers, especially when it comes to managing livestock feed and water. Recent events in Southeastern Ohio have highlighted the severe impact drought can have on agricultural operations.
Managing livestock like beef cattle during these times requires careful planning and access to resources.
To address these concerns, a special session on drought management strategies will take place at the Fairfield County Ag Center on Monday, December 2, starting at 7 p.m. This event is designed to provide farmers with practical tools and information for dealing with drought-related challenges.
Experts from Ohio State University Extension, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) will lead discussions on key topics, including:
Feed Alternatives: Practical options for sustaining livestock when traditional feed supplies are low.
Feed Management Strategies: Tips for efficiently using available feed resources during drought.
Disaster Relief Programs: Details on federal and state drought disaster assistance.
Funding Opportunities: Insights into programs supporting feed and water needs for affected farmers.
This session is not just about addressing current challenges but also preparing farmers for future uncertainties. Participants will gain valuable insights into optimizing their resources and accessing government assistance programs tailored to their needs.
Farmers interested in attending can make reservations by contacting OSU Extension in Fairfield County at 740-653-5419 or visiting go.osu.edu/feedmanagement. Walk-ins are welcome, but reserving a spot ensures better accommodation.
By adopting effective strategies and utilizing available resources, farmers can navigate the difficulties posed by drought and safeguard their livestock and livelihood.
