Farm transition planning is an important part of protecting the future of family farms, and Ohio farmers will soon have the opportunity to learn more about this process through an upcoming workshop series. Washington County is partnering with OSU Extension to host two educational sessions designed to help farm families understand how to prepare their operations for the next generation.
The “Planning for the Future of Your Farm” Workshop will be held on two evenings, with Session 1 scheduled for March 3, 2026, and Session 2 scheduled for March 17, 2026. Both sessions will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions in order to receive the full benefit of the program. The total cost for the two‑part workshop is $45.
Farm transition planning can be complex, as it involves financial decisions, legal considerations and long-term family goals. These sessions are designed to give participants a clear understanding of the planning steps and tools needed to make thoughtful decisions about their farm’s future. The workshops aim to help farmers begin or continue conversations about transferring management responsibilities, preparing estate plans and ensuring that family farming operations can remain stable for years to come.
Farmers attending the workshop will learn strategies for protecting farm assets, maintaining business continuity and creating a plan that supports both the farm and the family’s needs. They will also receive practical guidance from OSU Extension experts who specialize in agricultural planning and rural development.
Registration is simple and can be completed by calling 740‑376‑7431. Participants who complete both sessions may qualify for financial assistance. The Washington County Farm Bureau has announced that it will reimburse Farm Bureau members $20 upon completion of the full program, making the workshop even more accessible.
A workshop flyer is also available for anyone who would like additional event details. By participating in this program, farmers can take an important step toward strengthening their farm’s future and ensuring that their agricultural legacy continues for the next generation.
