Each year during National Agriculture Month, Ohio’s top agricultural educators are honored through the Golden Owl Award, recognizing their essential role in teaching and shaping the next generation of agriculture leaders. With many consumers far removed from farm life, agricultural education is more important than ever.
Presented by Nationwide, Ohio Farm Bureau, Ohio FFA, Farm Credit Mid-America, and Ag Credit, the award highlights the dedication of teachers and FFA advisors. These educators help bridge the gap between consumers and food producers, giving students the tools to lead in agriculture.
The Golden Owl Award winner receives a $5,000 grant to invest in their ag program. Devin Fuhrman from Nationwide said, “We recognized that ag educators are at the centre of preparing this industry’s best leaders.”
In the 2023–2024 cycle, Jeffrey Stimmel expanded his FFA program significantly by introducing topics outside of traditional agriculture. His efforts led to such growth that a second teacher was hired. “Ag education covers many areas,” he explained, “and I focus on what interests students.”
Another recipient, Wuebker, has influenced students for over 31 years in Versailles. Her impact goes beyond the classroom as she helps students build communication and leadership skills that stay with them long after graduation. “Seeing my former students succeed in the community is the best reward,” she shared.
The spirit of the FFA Creed is seen in classrooms every day. Teachers help students believe in agriculture’s future while becoming leaders in their homes and communities.
As Ohio celebrates its 2025 finalists, the Golden Owl Award continues to spotlight the powerful influence of ag educators who inspire, teach, and lead future generations in agriculture.
