Livestock farmers preparing for calving season can attend the Noble County Calving Clinic on February 20 for an evening of hands-on learning. Hosted by OSU Extension, the event will run from 6-9 p.m. at the Eastern Agricultural Research Station in Caldwell, OH.
In case of bad weather, the backup location is the Extension Operations Building in Caldwell.
Participants will gain valuable experience by practicing calf-pulling techniques using a simulator cow. Experts will discuss common calving challenges and solutions, helping farmers better prepare for the season.
Speakers for the event include:
- Garth Ruff – OSU Extension Beef Cattle Field Specialist
- Christine Gelley – Noble County ANR Educator
- Eastern Agricultural Research Station Staff
Farmers will learn about proper calving management, recognizing complications, and improving calf survival rates. This training is essential for both new and experienced livestock producers.
The event is free to attend and includes a complimentary beef dinner. However, seating is limited, and RSVPs are required by February 18. Interested participants should email gelley.2@osu.edu or call 740-732-5681 to register.
This clinic provides an excellent opportunity for livestock producers to enhance their calving skills, ensuring safer and more efficient births for their herds. Farmers are encouraged to register early to secure their spot in this informative and hands-on educational session.
