The Ohio Farm Bureau is backing Senate Bill 100, a new proposal aimed at expanding affordable health care access for Ohio’s farm families.
Introduced by Senator Susan Manchester, the bill focuses on providing personalized health plans for those lacking employer-based insurance or struggling with high costs and limited options.
Addressing Rural Health Care Challenges
Health care costs are a major concern for farmers, especially with lower farm income and rising operational expenses. Many farmers remain uninsured or underinsured due to limited affordable options.
A Farm Bureau Solution
If passed, SB 100 will allow Ohio Farm Bureau to offer individual health plans to members, expanding on its existing small business health plans. This initiative follows successful models from other state Farm Bureaus, ensuring quality and cost-effective coverage.
Benefits of the Farm Bureau Health Plans
The proposed Farm Bureau Health Plans will include:
- Doctor visits, hospitalization, and emergency care
- Preventive and maternity care
- Mental health and substance abuse services
These plans will serve as a reliable and affordable alternative for Ohio farmers and agribusinesses.
A Step Forward for Ohio Agriculture
Ohio Farm Bureau has long supported rural health initiatives. The 2017 Ohio Farm Bureau Health Benefits Plan helped small farm businesses, but individual coverage gaps remain. This bill provides an innovative solution to strengthen rural healthcare access.
Supporting the Bill
Ohio farmers are encouraged to voice their support for SB 100 as it progresses through the Ohio General Assembly. With affordable health coverage, farmers can focus on their businesses while ensuring the well-being of their families and communities.
