The 2025 Ohio Pork Congress highlighted the contributions of dedicated individuals through its annual awards ceremony, hosted by the Ohio Pork Council (OPC). The event celebrated outstanding achievements in the pork industry, including the Ohio Pork Industry Excellence Award, Pork Promoter of the Year, Swine Manager of the Year, and the Friend of Pork Industry Award. Additionally, the first-ever Ohio Pork Leadership Class was acknowledged for completing a comprehensive yearlong training program.

“It’s always very gratifying and sometimes a bit emotional to stop and recognize all of the hard work and dedication that so many have made to help make Ohio’s pork industry better,” said Nathan Schroeder, OPC president from Leipsic. “I’m honored to be part of an industry that continues to set the bar higher every day and these recipients prove that that kind of effort pays off and makes our future brighter.”

Jim Albaugh, a veteran pork producer, received the Ohio Pork Industry Excellence Award for his decades of service and leadership. Known for his mentorship and community involvement, Albaugh played a key role in establishing programs like OH-PIGS, a youth-oriented show pig initiative.

Anthony Stateler was recognized as Pork Promoter of the Year for his efforts in engaging the public about pork production. By hosting farm visits, participating in OPC’s social media outreach, and organizing virtual field trips, Stateler has significantly contributed to public awareness and education.

Richard Ryan earned the title of Swine Manager of the Year for his expertise and leadership in farm operations. With over 45 years in agriculture, he has successfully managed a multi-generational farm, balancing pig production and grain cultivation.

The Friend of Pork Industry Award went to Andrew Montoney, State Director of USDA, APHIS, and Wildlife Services. His leadership in controlling feral swine populations helped protect Ohio’s pork industry from disease threats, supporting legislation that enhanced industry security.

The Ohio Pork Leadership Class, designed to equip future industry leaders with essential skills, recognized several participants for their commitment. Schroeder concluded the event by commending all honorees for their continued contributions, reinforcing the strength and resilience of the pork industry.
