To support forage producers facing difficult weather conditions, the Ohio State University (OSU) Integrated Forage Team introduced a special webinar series in spring 2025.
The series is now available for public viewing on YouTube and includes three one-hour sessions focused on boosting forage resiliency.
Ohio farmers have dealt with unpredictable and extreme weather over the past year, impacting pasture and hay production. In response, OSU experts designed the webinars to offer guidance on key areas of concern, from assessing damage to adapting planting strategies.
The first webinar focuses on Weather Damage Evaluation, helping growers understand how to examine and assess the extent of weather-related harm to their forage crops. This session equips farmers with tools to determine whether to replant or manage existing stands.
The second session explores Options for Spring Planting, offering practical advice on selecting the right forage species, timing, and soil preparation for successful spring seeding. These insights are valuable for producers who need to re-establish forage stands or introduce new crops following winter losses.
The third and final session addresses Emergency Forages, sharing strategies for quickly establishing fast-growing crops that can serve as temporary feed during times of forage shortage. This includes guidance on seed selection, management practices, and expected yield potential.
These webinars are designed to be easy to understand, making them a helpful resource for both new and experienced farmers. The sessions are free to access on YouTube and can be watched anytime to fit a busy schedule.
The OSU Integrated Forage Team encourages all forage growers and ag educators to take advantage of this timely content.
For those seeking solutions to weather-related challenges in forage production, this webinar series offers practical support to keep operations resilient and productive.
