Ryanna Tietje, a senior at The Ohio State University and representative of the Collegiate Farm Bureau, has secured the top position in the Ohio Farm Bureau's 2024 Collegiate Discussion Meet. The results, announced during the YAP Winter Leadership Experience on January 27, highlight Tietje's exceptional subject knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills in the realm of current agricultural issues.
Hailing from a family grain farm in northwest Ohio, where corn and soybeans are cultivated, Tietje has a deep-rooted connection to agriculture. Currently studying agribusiness and applied economics with a minor in consumer and family financial services, she serves as the president of the OSU Agribusiness Club and is actively involved in various roles, including being a peer mentor for the OSU Honors program and a member of the Advisory Council for the Farm Financial Management and Policy Institute.
Post-graduation, Tietje envisions returning to her family farm and pursuing a career in farm financial management or grain risk management. As the winner of the Collegiate Discussion Meet, she receives a $1,000 scholarship and complimentary registration to the 2024 Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Conference in Omaha, Nebraska, where she will compete at the national level.
Joining Tietje as finalists in the competition are Ruth Beery of Wilmington College, Raegan Feldner, and Sarah Hoak, both from The Ohio State University.
The Collegiate Farm Bureau program, facilitated by the Ohio Farm Bureau, serves as a vital link between industry professionals and students. It aims to promote agriculture and related fields, fostering the development of future leaders in the agriculture industry by providing opportunities for leadership, civic engagement, career development, professional growth, and experiential learning.
