In 2024, Animal Sciences students participated in the Swine Bootcamp internship, an immersive program offered by the Pork Prospect initiative. This hands-on experience aimed to provide practical knowledge and career insights into swine production.
Practical Learning Experience
The internship spanned summer and fall, with students working at commercial swine farms across Ohio and Indiana. Participants engaged in a wide range of activities, including learning about pig health and medicine, nutritional management, and facility design.
These tasks allowed students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings while exploring the intricacies of swine farming.
Comprehensive Industry Exposure
The Swine Bootcamp exposed students to the full spectrum of swine production. From monitoring pig health and administering medicine to understanding feed formulations and designing efficient facilities, students gained a holistic understanding of the industry.
