Summer Programs Raise Awareness On Tick Borne Diseases In Cattle

By Andi Anderson

A series of educational programs focused on tick borne diseases in cattle is being organized this summer to help farmers and livestock owners understand and manage these growing concerns. These programs are hosted by the Ohio State University Extension Beef Team and aim to provide useful information through expert guidance and discussions.

Ticks are a major problem in livestock farming, as they can spread harmful diseases that affect cattle health and productivity. These programs highlight the importance of learning about ticks, their impact, and the diseases they carry. One of the main topics discussed during the sessions will be Thieleria orientalis, a disease that has become a serious concern in cattle.

The program includes three meetings at different locations in Ohio. These include Muskingum Livestock in Zanesville, the Federal Hocking Resource Center in Stewart, and J and L Cattle Services in Jeromesville. Each session will feature similar topics and presentations, ensuring that participants receive consistent and useful information regardless of the location they attend.

University experts and Extension staff will lead the sessions. They will share knowledge about tick identification, disease symptoms, prevention methods, and management strategies. The programs are designed to be simple, informative, and helpful, making them suitable for farmers, livestock workers, and anyone interested in cattle health.

One of the best features of these programs is that they are free to attend. However, participants are encouraged to register in advance to help organizers manage the sessions effectively. Additional details about the programs, including schedules and topics, are available through an online flyer provided by the organizers.
