Agronomy Day Supports Crop Producers

Agronomy Day Supports Crop Producers

By Andi Anderson

West Ohio Agronomy Day will return on January 6, 2026, bringing a full morning of learning, training, and recertification opportunities for those involved in crop production and nutrient management.

The program is organized by the Shelby County Extension Office and is designed to support individuals who hold private pesticide, commercial pesticide, or fertilizer licenses, as well as those who simply wish to learn more about agronomy practices.

The event will take place at the Clopay Building on the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Sidney. The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 1:00 p.m.

Throughout the day, participants will receive research-based updates and hear from industry professionals who will cover important topics related to crop production, pest control, and responsible fertilizer use. Local agribusinesses will also be present to answer questions and share information about their services and products.

Those who attend may earn recertification credits in pesticide categories 1, 2, 6, and core. Fertilizer recertification is also available. Commercial applicators can earn credits for a program fee of $45.

Private applicators may recertify for $35, while fertilizer applicator credits are available for $15. Individuals who do not need credits but still want to participate may attend for $10.

West Ohio Agronomy Day is built to support learning in a comfortable, local setting. The event includes lunch, refreshments, and coffee, giving attendees a chance to meet others in the agronomy community and discuss production challenges and solutions.

These local learning events help applicators stay informed about best practices and safety requirements, especially as rules and guidelines change over time.

Registration is required to attend. Participants may register by contacting the Shelby County Extension Office at 937-498-7239 or by emailing the program coordinator at puthoff.84@osu.edu. Early registration is encouraged to help organizers plan for meals and seating.

Overall, this annual event continues to be an important resource for crop producers, applicators, and community members seeking up-to-date agronomy information and required certification.
