The Ohio Cattlemen's Association (OCA) recently honored the Darke County Cattlemen's Association (DCCA) with its prestigious "Outstanding County" award, recognizing their exceptional achievements in industry education, consumer promotion, and youth engagement.
This award, sponsored by Ohio Corn & Wheat, acknowledges the top county organization across the state for its dedication to promoting beef, educating producers, and building a strong future for the industry. Judges consider activities, participation in OCA events, communication efforts, youth support, and overall cohesion in their selection process.
Under the leadership of President Erin Horst and its eight-member board, the DCCA has consistently focused on educating both aspiring and experienced beef producers and informing consumers about the benefits of beef. They achieve this through a variety of initiatives:
- Hands-on educational programs: Hoof trimming clinics, BQA sessions, and farm tours covering vital topics like herd health, AI synchronization, and pasture management.
- Targeted marketing campaigns: Billboards on main roadways and a Facebook page featuring a Google Map to help consumers find local freezer beef within Darke County.
- Active youth engagement: Prioritizing hands-on learning and producer-led activities to inspire and cultivate the next generation of cattlemen.
- The DCCA's commitment to these efforts reflects their unwavering dedication to the beef industry and their passion for building a sustainable future for cattle producers in Darke County.
